WILLIAM JAMES FERGUSON, SR., 76, passed away on Tuesday March 13,2007. A Memphis native better known as "Billy" to his family and friends graduated from Memphis State University and Southern Law University in 1964. He was preceded in death by his parents John Bernard and Lorene Ferguson, his son, Robert Lee Ferguson, Sr.; and his grandsons, Robert Lee Ferguson, Jr. and Thomas Lee Ferguson. Billy's lifetime passion for drag and motorboat racing led to many accomplishments and associations with the Rodder's Club of Memphis and the Memphis Power Boat Club. He was a master mechanic and raced competitively in national events all over the country. At one point in his racing career he held various records in his competitive class. Billy's longtime passion for golf led to many close relationships at the Greens of Irene and Windyke Country Clubs. Billy was the sole proprietor of Ferguson Precast Products. He established this business in 1972 and was well-respected and accomplished in the concrete products community. His first passion was his work. He had close business relationships with MLGW and others. He is survived by his wife, Charlene Boxx Ferguson; two sons, William J. Ferguson, Jr. of Lakewood, CO. and John Randall (Randy) Ferguson of Memphis; his sister, Gloria F. Jones; and his brother, John B. Ferguson, Jr., both of Memphis. He has two granddaughters, Amanda E. Ferguson of Lakewood, CO. and Amy Ferguson of Memphis. He has four grandsons John Devin Ferguson of Somerville, TN., Michael Jeffrey Ferguson of Memphis currently in Iraq, Erik L. Ferguson and James Anthony Ferguson, both of Bartlett. Billy and Charlene are longtime members of the Merton Avenue Baptist Church. Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m.Saturday, March 17, at the Bartlett United Methodist Church, 5676 Stage Road, in Bartlett, TN. Services entrusted to Bartlett Funeral Home 901- 372-5555 |
