Curtis DeWayne Phillipy of Memphis,
passed from this life on October 25, 2009. He was born on March 5,
1934 to O. R. and Audrey Brown Phillipy. He was a graduate of the
University of Tennessee and owned and operated a successful
insurance business for many years. He enjoyed several hobbies,
including hunting, fishing, and UT football. He was especially
proud of being a private pilot with 5,000 hours of flying time.
DeWayne was a longtime member of Grace St. Luke’s Episcopal
Church. DeWayne is survived by his children: Linda Phillipy, Lee
Phillipy, Mary Audrey and (Timothy) Cook, and Curtis and (Donna)
Phillipy. He also leaves five grandchildren, six
great-grandchildren, and two brothers, Ralph K. and Edwin Phillipy.
Dewayne is predeceased by his parents, O.R. and Audrey Phillipy
and a brother, Edward Phillipy. The family will receive friends
from 11 a.m.-12 noon on Thursday, October 29, at Grace St. Luke’s
Episcopal Church with a memorial service to follow at 12 noon. In
lieu of flowers, the family requests any donations be made to St.
Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Grace St. Luke’s Episcopal
