BLANCHE WARREN GOKE, 96, retired from Memphis Public Library, died December 4, 2011 in Germantown, TN. She was born in Demopolis, AL, October 21, 1915, daughter of Ernest K. and Margaret Davies Warren, and moved to Memphis when four years old. She graduated from Tech High School and Tennessee State Teachers College. She taught school one year before marrying, which ended her teaching career, because Memphis would not contract with married women for teaching. She and her husband then attended Southern University, College of Law together and graduated just before he was called into the Navy in 1943. When he was assigned to Navy schools, she found employment at nearby locations until he was assigned to sea duty. After WWII ended, her son, “Rod” was born and she chose to remain at home during his early school years, and longtime member of Christ United Methodist Church. Blanche was predeceased by her sons, Louis Rodney “Rod” Goke of Austin, TX, her parents and a sister, Ernestine Davis. She is survived by her husband of 71 years, Louis P. Goke; a brother, A.P. Warren of Gallion, AL; a niece and several nephews. The family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. until service time at 2;30 p.m., Thursday, December 8 at Memorial Park Funeral Home, with the interment to follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
