is there any way that the 1943 and 1942 techites
could get me a color copy (like from kinkos) of the exact pages in my annuals that were cut up? they could then be glued over my cut up pages in those two annuals? this happened in the 48 annual also and i did this and it worked great. let me know if they can and i would be glad to pay for them.

I just found this site from classmates, oh how I remember the good ole days, I went to Tech in the Fall of 76, it was not the school I was assigned to, I was assigned to Treadwell High, I choose Tech instead because it was an open school. The website is awesome. During my high school years, I was a cheerleader, Ms.Senior,Ms. Football Queen, officer in the Honor Society and Senior Class.

I went to Tech for my sophomore and Junior years. Unfortunately, I married the year before graduation. I was in Mr. Dworshak's homeroom. I have looked through the faculty pics and do not find a picture of Coach Owens who taught 10th grade Biology. Does anyone remember him? Do you remember me? Drop me a note sometime. This is a great website. Brought back so many memories.

class of 1969 is the death of Billie Ruth Parker Beretta. She was a
cheerleader and honor student at Tech and later sang professionally with
local bands. Earlier this year, Ralph Allen, student body president in 1969,
high school and college athlete, and teacher, also died at the age of 56.
They were both outstanding leaders and amazing personalities. I taught both
of them and admired them greatly.
Here is Billie Ruth's obituary.

|Message:||My congrats to the class of 1952 and
their 55th reunion weekend. I so enjoyed displaying the entire Tech
historical collection and meeting so many of you last night. We found no
fewer than 5 relatives in the annuals. One lady found a senior photo of her
step-brother who died in the service of his country at the end of world war
II. I will be making her a copy of that photo for her to keep. Several
people found pictures of their parents, uncles, aunts, etc. This is a part
of my labors that i love. Let me know if you enjoyed the collection and what
i might do to improve it. As always, everyone feel free to add to the
collection for the enjoyment of others. Many people commented on the Tech
football jacket from 1945 that bill Johnson donated to the cause. Thanks
bill. Thanks also to the class of 1951 and Gene Gill for loaning us the Tech
miniature to display. Go Tech!!

|Message:||Hello Tech High Alumni,
First let me say thank you to J.D. Smith (Class of 1968) for emailing me the link to the Tech High Alumni website. I spent an hour or more last night looking at just about every inch of it and I must say it is Super!!! Also a Very Special THANK YOU goes to Gene and Sue for their vision and determination to create the website and bringing it to life,...Yeah Class of 1951,(also my birth year.) Continued thanks goes to Rob for all the Tech High Memorabilia,...Look out Rob, I have found a few more items in my Junk for you!!! And thanks to all the many others who have and will continue to contribute to the growing success of this living history.
I am very blessed for so many things in my life and attending Tech is still high on that ever growing list. My Dad was in the Class of 1938 and at 88 is thankfully with us today. I just called to let him know about the site and he was very anxious to,... Hang-Up phone and Dial-Up his computer. I will certainly be letting my brother Chuck (Class of 1970) know about the site as well.
Although I am pleased to possibly be the first 1969 class member to post a message, I hope I am not the last. We seem to be the Casper Class and always disappearing. Let's change that and become better represented in the future. When my Dad sends a message, he will be the 3rd member from the Class of 1938 to be represented. They might just have the record for now.
I am looking forward to attending the next reunion and seeing many new faces. Thanks again to everyone and God's Blessings to you and yours.

life at Tech was a necessity. I had grown up in Frayser and hated it. If you
didn't commit a certain number of crimes it seemed you were out of place
there. I told my parents if they didn't get me out of Frayser I was probably
going to end up in prison or dead. That is when I found myself at Memphis
Tech. While at Tech I found a true diversity of people with all kinds of
different ideas. Some of the people that I would love to see or hear from I
haven't seen or heard from since school. They don't visit these websites,
they don't leave names, numbers, addresses or email. I am living in Oxford,MS

for my present success. I started my career in the secretarial/accounting
field, and eventually became an RN. I am a successful business owner of
Vicki Roy Home Health in Harlingen, TX in the Rio Grande Valley with
approximately 1000 employees. I took Spanish at Tech and lived in Monterrey,
Mexico for about six or seven years. And I use Spanish here as the majority
of the folks are Spanish speaking. Sometimes we just can't figure where
we're going in life when we are young, but God has a plan for everyone's
life if we will just let Him lead. I do miss my Memphis culture sometimes,
but God has blessed me with a son who looks and sings like Elvis; he

comments on my essay about the peaceful integration of Tech High. Indeed,
his father Coach Wright was a strong force in maintaining calm and
discipline during what could have been a troubled time. Coach Wright was one
of the watchful ones who unobtrusively patrolled the third floor near my
classroom. Had the faculty not stood behind the principal and if the
students had not been intelligent and honorable, chaos could have erupted. I
was so proud of Tech at that time.

Elliott's account of the integration of Tech in '63. I was a sophomore that
year and clearly remember the assembly in which Mr. Bourne informed the
student body of the decision for Tech to be the first integrated school.
After that assembly, some of our students left the assembly and started to
leave the campus, insisting that they would not go to school with ...well,
you know what they said. My father, Coach Wright, saw them heading off
campus and got in front of them. I was not part of that group and do not
know exactly what he said to them, however, I think the words he used in
telling them to return to school and his tone did not need to be
interpreted. As far as I remember, that was the only attempt by any of our
students to flee history.

Thank you for telling us about your years at Tech. Throughout our years at Tech we all had our favorite teachers who made life long impressions on us and inspired us to be the best that we could be. Looking back, and especially as I scanned all these yearbooks, it was amazing to see how many years these dedicated people devoted their lives to doing what they loved to do. And so it is with most of us. So much of our lives is consumed with labors of love. This web site has been a labor of love for Gene and me. Knowing what the magnificent end result would be was what kept us working so diligently non stop. The whole idea was conceived in Gene Gill's wonderful imagination. I was only a tool at his disposal and am always the willing assistant.

You and Gene are truly among the "Tech Notables." As sponsor of the yearbook for twenty years, I certainly recognize and appreciate all the hard work you did scanning the pages. What memories they recall!
Like Mrs. Hendon, I came to teach at Tech in the 1960's, and like her, I learned to love the school and its traditions. Certainly we knew of the contributions of the classes of the 1950's, and the 1940's, and even further back. We were mentored by Ruthie Stanfield, Mayo Linder, Daisy Kirk, Margaret Kelly, and others who vividly reported episodes of Mr. Highsaw's tenure. We even got to meet many of those former students, as Tech grads were constantly returning to visit a favorite teacher.
I taught Tech students across three decades, from 1963 until the closing in 1987. Each class had its unique character and each brought something special to our school.
Thanks to you and Gene, we can now all keep in touch and relive the memories.

Gene. He is to be thanked and commended by all. As is Sue herself. She has
spent countless hours scanning and sending info to Gene in California. Let
me set the record straight a bit. So many people have been thanking me for
this web site. The following is my contribution. I began collecting Tech
items around 1990. I was in full steam collecting by 1997 and had the entire
set of annuals by 2004. That is the extent of my work on this web site. I
loaned everything to Gene and Sue and will do so any time. I loan things for
reunions and give extra annuals to folks that need them. I love doing it. I
look up and copy relatives pictures for anyone that asks. I have never
charged anyone for any of this. Like I said......I love doing it.
BUT........ Gene and Sue are the bones behind this web site. Class of
1951!!! To include me with those two would be like giving credit to the guy
that handed Michelangelo the chisel to sculpt the statue of David. You guys
are nice but let's give credit where credit is due. Gene Gill and Sue
I have met both of them and come to love them and their talents. My thanks to them both! Tech High School now has a web site equal to none in the country.

remained. In 1977 I acquired a summer job at the then NBC affiliate WBZ4 (my
degree was in tv production). That was in june of 1977. This month I
celebrate my 30th year at that station (I'm only 53 years old).
I married in 2005 and live in a suburb of Boston. To find out more you'll have to send me an email..
Looking forward to hearing from many 'techies'

enjoyed scanning and running into old friends that I wasn't aware went to
Tech. Also I found my great uncle and great aunt in the class of '37. My
mother went in '31, but she didn't graduate. Her brother, my uncle also went
in '46 and didn't graduate. Then there was my sister and me......hey...I may
be getting close to YOUR record! It's a great web site. It's really fun to
browse through. Gene did a magnificent job. Have you looked at the girls of
the '40s? I think they were the most beautiful of all the years.

this wonderful web site. Gene, Sue Lee and Rob have done a tremendous amount
of work in collecting, scanning and publishing this staggering amount of
information about our classmates, and I for one, really appreciate all of
their hard work. I was especially happy to see the roster for the class of
'45, because my sister, Barbara Mann, was in that class, and I believe she
had lost her copy. It was good to see her class picture.
I would also like to thank Leigh and Doug Kendrick for the work they have done in locating many of our classmates. I know there must have been many others who have contributed to this great web site, and I thank them also.

terrific web page! I think we have finally arrived in the "Tech" era!
It was great to see my class of 1960 and to remember the ones I knew personally, and to recall the names of the other ones that I had come into contact with during my 4 years at Tech.
What a monumental task this undertaking was. Again congrats on the great work that went into the making of the Tech Web Page.
Hope to read some news from the class of my year and others.
